The Spirit of Animal Totems

On any given day the Spirit of Animal Totems come into my life with messages to unpack and use for their wisdom, knowledge and communication.

This morning was no exception however this animal needed rescuing. Or perhaps it was I that needed to be rescued and set free, free from what holds you in place, where you might be stuck, unable to move, uncomfortable, tired and drained.

A beautiful grey squirrel we nickname Vinnie Barbarino after we discover he wasn't a Barbara was perched high upon a metal branch normally used for hanging baskets. And proceeded to chow down on the bird seed pillar we had hung for the song birds to enjoy.

Vinnie had decided to hang down and chow down with both hands and he used his tail for stability. Trouble was Vinnie had managed to wrap his tail around this metal branch a hanger for planters and bird feeders. If there are any of you who have wrapped your hair around a round brush while blow drying your hair and noticed it gets tighter and tighter and you are unable to unwind the brush from your gorgeous locks you'll know exactly how Vinnie was feeling. He had wound his tail over and over in the same direction and now he couldn't pull free.

Top it off two dogs ours and the neighbours were enamoured with this little fella and barking to drive him from his perch and drive us all crazy and hopefully dislodge the squirrel to no avail. Bruce my husband grabbed some gardening gloves and tried his best but the squirrel wasn't having any of it.

So to keep the squirrel calm, we just hung the food closer to him so he could perch on the metal branch until help arrived. Key is asking for professional help when needed.

An animal earth angel named John from 'That Wildlife Guy' arrived promptly and assessed the situation. He managed to safely without harm snare the squirrel place it in a protective flashing tube a MacGyver technique and gently unwound it's tail from the metal branch. Grateful for John's big heart, peace of mind and healing hands.

All is well in the backyard once again.

This handsome grey squirrel reminds us to nurture ourselves, prepare for the unexpected, to be resourceful, quick thinking and ask for help. Store a bounty of food just in case having reserves on hand if needed may come in handy. And to be kind to yourself in this situation you get a free pass, freed from what holds you in a tough spot.
